One licence, many trading spots
A mobile food licence in QLD can let your food truck or van operate across Queensland. That licence covers the food business, not the places you park. Trading on council land or at a particular site usually needs separate permission, and other councils may charge fees where you trade. In Brisbane, for example, trading on council land goes through the council's food truck program.
We help with the licence application and help you keep track of the trading permissions to check as you build your calendar. Places that often need a separate check:
- Parks, streets and other council land
- Markets, festivals and private events
- Private property such as car parks or brewery sites
- Each council area you plan to visit

Getting your truck ready to trade

- 2
Prepare the licence application
We help identify the right application and gather supporting material on food safety and how the vehicle operates.
- 3
Note your trading permissions
We help you list the locations that need separate permission, so you can check each council's rules before booking sites or events.
Mobile business or fixed premises?
How the vehicle is used matters. In Brisbane, a truck permanently located on private property is treated as fixed premises rather than a mobile business, and planning approval may be needed. If you're thinking of setting up long term at one site, tell us early so we can help you prepare for the right application.
Serving alcohol from a mobile food business is a separate liquor question. A food licence doesn't cover it, and we can talk you through the liquor side in the same conversation.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a new food licence for each council area?
Usually not. One food business licence can let a mobile food business operate across Queensland. Other councils may still charge fees, and trading approvals for specific locations can be separate.
Can I trade on council land with my food truck licence?
Not automatically. In Brisbane, trading on council land needs a separate approval through the council's food truck program. Check each council's rules before you trade.
What if I also want to serve alcohol?
Serving alcohol usually needs a separate liquor approval, although some exemptions may apply. A food business licence does not cover alcohol service. We can help you work out whether you need a liquor application and which one fits your plans.
